WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I GET PULLED OVER BY THE POLICE

Q: IF I GET A TICKET FOR SPEEDING OR RUNNING A STOP LIGHT COULD IT CAUSE MY AUTO INSURANCE TO GO UP?

Well mostly likely if you got pulled over by the police, you probably broke the law.   Whether you did it intentionally or not, it doesn’t matter…you still did.

First and foremost;   BE NICE.   99% percent of the time if you are polite the police officer will respond to you the same way.  They are trained to be calm and cordial.  Only talk when you are spoken to.    Don’t start playing Q & A about what you did wrong or why you were pulled over.   Remember, you know WHY you were pulled over.

Above all, always tell the truth about any question asked of you.  If you lie to a police officer, they will never have any reason to trust what you have told them.

Now, if the police officer gives you a ticket, just suck it up and say thank you.  Why?

Because when you get home, you are going to plead “NOT GUILTY” on the back of the ticket (PS. DO NOT CHECK OFF THE BOX REQUESTING A SUPPORTING DEPOSTION!!!) That will only make the police officer do more paperwork.

Get your day in court and you will have a chance to plea your violation with the local District attorney.    Mostly likely (unless you are a criminal) they will offer you a lesser violation and you may pay a stiff fine.

BUT….It may not go on your driving record and cause your INSURANCE PREMIUM ON YOUR CAR INSURANCE TO GO UP!!!!

REMEMBER, BE NICE.     PLEAD NOT GUILTY.   GET YOUR DAY IN COURT AND ASK THAT YOUR VIOLATION BE REDUCED.
