Whatever Can Go Wrong…

On Friday Jan 13th the cruse ship – Costa Concordia hit an obstacle near the island of Giglio off the coast of Italy while on a trip around the Mediterranean.

Unfortunate accidents can happen at any time during travel or while on vacation. we thought it would be prudent for us at MVR Agency to let you know some insurance issues you might have while traveling abroad or outside of the US.

Do you have coverage for your belongings and valuable articles? You may or may not have coverage outside the US territory as many insurance contracts are different. If you do not have a separate RIDER on your homeowners policy for valuable articles, you may not be covered for those personal effects, additionally, you may not have any coverage afforded to you if they go down with a sinking ship.

A tragic situation like this one can also lead to the topic of life insurance or accident insurance if something unexpected happens to a loved one like those lost at sea on the Costa Concordia.

The easiest way to solve this problem is to CONTACT YOUR INSURANCE AGENT well ahead of your scheduled travel dates, discuss your trip and how you can protect your personal property from loss or theft. A simple survey of your planned trip won’t avoid tragedy, but it will certainly help the outcome.
